A quote is typically a copy of a piece of text from another source presented in your own text.
Quotes have to be clearly marked, otherwise there is a risk of plagiarism.
Simply making a reference to the source that the quote is taken from is not sufficient. You will also have to use, for instance, quotation marks to mark what has been directly copied.
