After the incident with the lost USB and possible data breach, you delete all recorded files. You do your work with the anonymized transcripts only and with and additional file with demographic data (gender, age, prior occupation, etc.).
As you work on the analysis, you realise that you made at least one mistake in the demographic data file.
You have registered a person (a busdriver) as a son to one of the informants, but in the interview the informant says that he only has daughters and they all work in health care.
You do not know how to correct the error. Due to the participants large families you can not remember which of the informants had this son. And you can’t find this information in the transcripts. On the other hand, this basic mistake does not really change anything in your analysis.
You would like to discuss the situation with your supervisor, but you are afraid that your supervisor will lose faith in you if you admit to making beginners mistakes like this.
